‘Tis the season to watch brand-new holiday commercials chock full of couples doing couple-y things, like sitting on the carpet directly under the Christmas tree, ice skating, wearing dated ’90s sweaters, and giving each other presents that always either diamonds or a car. Couples in commercials: They’re just like us!
Here are three amusing ones:
1. The Good: Target
Target commercials are always fun to watch, especially around Christmas, if only because they’re bright, heavy on the good music, and so well art-directed that you know the ad budget has to be huge. It’s a little cheesy, but I always smile when I see this one, especially the guy’s face in the snowman scene.
2. The Bad: Kay Jewelers
This is an oldie but a goodie that Kay resurrected just for the holidays: A couple is stuck inside a deserted house during a lightning storm, and the guy…well, just watch. This can’t end well.
3. The Awesome: State Farm Insurance
A witty, funny representation of a somewhat realistic couples’ quarrel. Featuring Selita Ebanks and Mehcad Brooks (ha-cha-cha…).
