After spending her TV show’s fourth season fixing up singles in NYC (as opposed to its usual Los Angeles locale), Patti Stanger, Bravo’s Millionaire Matchmaker, dished to Crain’s about why she thinks dating in New York is so difficult:
New York people are very picky and high-maintenance. It’s not enough that you’re good-looking and went to Yale; they want you to cure cancer. The people were not attractive and didn’t take care of themselves. And the bitterness was overwhelming.
She’s not exaggerating. The season finale of the show airs at 9 p.m. EST on Tuesday, January 11, and what a season it was. First, there was the reclusive millionaire who said he “hate[s] people” and sent his pear martini back at the Oak Room because the bartender had the gall to put fresh puree in it. Then there was the Dr. Siegal’s Cookie Diet CEO who refused to let Patti make him over and instead sported a bowl cut and a purple paisley polyester shirt to a cringeworthy date during which he antagonized his companion to the point that he threw a glass of ice water in his face.
The finale promises to be just as entertaining: Patti’s millionaires are former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Freddie Mitchell and batty “model/actress/host/interviewer” Stacy Kessler, who, when she was on the show a few episodes ago, said she was insanely busy with “projects” yet was hard-pressed to name a specific one. Patti hooks Stacy up to a lie detector on Tuesday’s episode. Set your DVR and buy yourself a pouch of microwaveable popcorn now!
