There’s nothing better than a great love song, but some of them can be a little, shall we say, lame. That got me thinking: There have to be cool love songs out there — ones that we can put on a mix tape for our hipster boyfriend/girlfriend and not be laughed out of Brooklyn.
To find these, I tapped someone with some serious expertise: music writer Michael Tedder, who has written for Spin, the Village Voice, and CMJ. Here’s what he has to say:
“The worst stereotype about hipsters is that they don’t like anything. But if that’s true, then why are there so many songs about how much they like that special someone? Here are 10 of the best love songs that any self-respecting music aficionado would find room for on a mix:”
1. “Kiss Me On The Bus,” The Replacements
“Even if you’re years away from the days of riding the school bus, this song captures what it’s like to desperately want that person to just step up to the plate already. (P.S. We have no idea what’s going on in this video.)”
