A 20.5-carat Engagement Ring for Kim Kardashian? Really?

New Jersey Nets basketball player Kris Humphries, 26, Kim Kardashian‘s beau, proposed to her on May 18 with a 20.5-carat engagement ring. It’s valued at around $2 million. Humphries makes more than $3 million per year sinking baskets for the Nets.

However, a piece of jewelry that giant might also pose some practical problems if Kim, 30, wants to do anything other than walk the red carpet. The New York Daily News reported that the ring probably weighs 4 ounces or more: “In terms of weight: imagine strapping a deck and a half of cards on your finger.”

Everyone has the right to purchase and/or wear whatever kind of engagement ring they’d like, but for the amount of money Humphries paid for the ring, he probably could have singlehandedly rebuilt the town of Joplin, Missouri. Or at least helped considerably.

Also, there’s this: ”It’s the most beautiful thing I have ever seen,” Kardashian told People magazine of the ring. “It’s perfect.”

“In high school I went to Macy’s and bought this fake ring, my ‘perfect’ ring, and this is almost the exact same,” she added.

Who buys a fake engagement ring for themselves in high school? Does she have a hope chest filled with baby clothes too? Actually, we don’t want to know the answer to that.
