Study: Frequent Sex is the Key to a Happier Retirement

Want to make your twilight years the best they can be? Keep makin’ bacon with your long-term love. A new study shows that retired couples who reported that they had sex more than once a month were more likely to say they were “very happy” with both life and their marriage.

The research, conducted by the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, breaks down like this:

Almost 60 per cent who had sex more than once a month were “very happy” with their life in general, compared with just 40 per cent of those who had not done it for more than a year.

Similarly, 59 per cent who reported no sexual activity in the last 12 months were “very happy” with their marriage, as opposed to almost eight-in-10 who had sex more than once a month.

Researchers say that the study will open a dialogue to address health barriers that prevent older adults from having sex.

Another of the study’s happy findings:  The correlation between happiness and frequent sex stayed the same regardless of age, health, gender, or attitude toward financial situation.

It seems money really can’t buy happiness. And that’s pretty great.
