Bar none, we say Blue Valentine. Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams’s breakup was nothing less than excruciating, from where we sit. Also tough: Gwyneth Paltrow and Ethan Hawke’s doomed one-sided love affair in Alfonso Cuarón’s 1998 film adaptation of Great Expectations (don’t judge).
