Ooh-la-la… The just-launched-last-week Victoria’s Secret Designer Collection is an eye-popping fantasy world of corsets, teddies, and garter belts — and the lingerie is selling like hotcakes. But before you buy, prepare to plunk down some serious cash.
Bras retail from $98 to $158; undies and garter belts are $38 to $68 and baby dolls and teddies are $158 to $218. The collection will replace the brand’s decade-old strategy of carrying high-end brands like Chantelle Thomas in their stores. “We took it in-house because we have a design team that has such a passion for lingerie, and they differentiate Victoria’s Secret from any other brand,” Ed Razek, president and chief marketing officer of Victoria’s Secret, told WWD. We think passion is a fitting descriptor here.
Although we love the intricate straps, hooks, and detailing, we’ll reserve judgment for whether the items are a decent buy when we see them for ourselves. Will the construction and design hold a candle to luxury lingerie from Kiki de Montparnasse or Agent Provocateur?
We appreciate Victoria’s Secret’s efforts to de-teen-ify its lingerie — we liked it way back when VS was thought of as delightfully dirty rather than sweatpants central! — but, call us biased, if we’re laying out this kind of cash, we’d rather have the gold standard of lingerie from the high-end panty professionals.
