Sometimes you just need to read about a cute wedding proposal to kick off your week. And we aim to please! Check out this adorable proposal, as featured in this weekend’s New York Times Vows section. (Hint: It involves a newspaper too. Meta!)
Long story short, Renée Robichaux, 31, a lawyer, and her newspaper cartoonist boyfriend, Guy Endore-Kaiser, 36, got engaged after Endore-Kaiser cooked up a little scheme before a weekend getaway the couple had planned:
“He told me we were going to Santa Barbara with friends,” she said, and “our friends conveniently canceled at the last minute.”
So they headed to Santa Barbara on their own, and the next morning, Nov. 13, Mr. Endore-Kaiser arranged to have a copy of The News-Press delivered to their hotel room.
“Check and see if the comic strip is in the newspaper,” he asked when the paper arrived.
Ms. Robichaux was not entirely cooperative.
“Don’t you know if your comic is in the paper?” she recalled saying. “I didn’t have my glasses on,” she remembered, and after a quick look told him, “No, it’s not in here.”
He told her to look again. “I put my glasses on; I read it,” she said. “I saw a man on one knee, and a girl reading a paper.” The couple were in a hotel room, and in robes, as were she and Mr. Endore-Kaiser. The caption said, “Renée, will you marry me?”
At that, he got down on one knee.
Swoon! Now this is a proposal.
