Pass us a Kleenex: A new commercial for Google Chrome is a mini love story backed by an awesome soundtrack that makes us misty-eyed. In the minute-and-a-half-long spot, a (presumably fictional) man named Mark Potter uses documents, pictures, and videos within an e-mail to convince his ex-girlfriend, Jen, to meet him for coffee. It’s so sweet that we fell for it hook, line, and sinker. Check it out below:
We know the commercial is manipulative, we know it’s slick, we know it’s hyper-targeted to a very specific segment of the population (a.k.a. us and everyone who has a soft spot for love), but we can’t help but tear up when we see that picture of the park bench, and then the picture of the cubicle, and then the picture of them sitting by the water… Holy cow, we know we’re being emotionally blackmailed, but it’s worth it just to feel something and hear the lovely tune (“Porch Song” by the Meemies) and imagine how cool Jen must be and think about how we like her bangs.
That said, we’re not sure she should get back together with Mark Potter, because he kind of seems like a workaholic a-hole, but we’re all for torch songs in any form. Nice work, Google.
