And now for the second portion of our interview with Patricia Barnes-Svarney, author of the new book Why Do Women Crave More Sex in the Summer?: 112 Questions That Women Keep Asking — and That Keep Everyone Else Guessing. (Here’s part one if you missed it.) Read on!
(Part two of two)
3. If a woman sees a guy who’s scantily clad (wearing a tank top or strutting around bare-chested in swim trunks, for example), does that jump-start her sex drive, just like pop culture says it does for men?
Yes, of course (and if that guy is Johnny Depp…why, it’s even better) [Editor's note: Agreed!] … It’s true that men are more visual when it comes to a boost in sex drive, but women are not immune to looking, either. In fact, there was a study about how women respond to dancing men—judging the movements of certain males to be more physically and behaviorally attractive than other males. It appears to be an evolutionary thing: Such physical prowess from cave-person time was probably indicative of superior fighting ability. This was no doubt needed to protect females, their offspring—and maybe kitchen utensils coveted by neighboring clans.
4. What’s one fascinating fact or tip about sex and relationships that women need to know when they’re out and about this summer?
Most of us in the northern parts of the world think of sex and summer as going together. We wait all winter to show off our new swimwear and check out all the bodies of the opposite gender when beach season hits. And remember, the Sun manages to suppress your sleep-inducing melatonin levels, making you more alert (possibly sleeping less, too) and open to new experiences—sexual and otherwise.
