After five years of marriage, Katie Holmes, 33, has filed for divorce from Tom Cruise, 49, People is reporting. Is it just us, or did that five years go by fast?
Here are the details:
“This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family,” says Holmes’s attorney Jonathan Wolfe. “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”
Cruise’s rep tells PEOPLE: “Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy.”
The Rock of Ages star, 49, wed actress Holmes, 33, in an Italian castle in November 2006. They have daughter Suri, 6.
When the pair married, there was tabloid speculation that Holmes had signed a 10-year contract tying her to the arrangement in exchange for money and privileges. (Some reports argued that the alleged contract doesn’t exist.) Five isn’t 10, but it’s still a nice, round number. Hm.
