If you’re nervous about traveling with a vibrator, The Screaming O‘s line of vibes that at first glance appear to be makeup will be your new best buzzy friends. The insanely clever packaging includes toys in the shape of a lipstick, a makeup brush, a compact, and even a mascara wand. These gizmos could fool anyone pawing through your purse — kids, security guards…maybe even the TSA.

We gave the gadgets a test-drive and were blown away by the attention paid to the design. The silicone fire-engine-red lipstick (in a hard plastic tube, just like the real stuff) is especially amusing. Plus, each vibe comes with extra AG-13 batteries galore (there’s even a $12 “power compact” to store extras), which is a godsend when the last thing you want to do is run to the corner store because you’re out of juice.
However, we wish the same care lavished on the packaging were also spent on the functionality. It’s nearly impossible to get some of the toys to work to begin with, and although the motors are supposed to be multi-speed, a truly special touch (that we clearly don’t possess) is needed to ratchet the things up past a shudder. A couple of them seemed to stop working altogether after a single use. The most powerful and reliable one was the Sexy Secrets Compact [$25], which houses the company’s signature Bullet vibe.
Our verdict: Consider buying these for bachelorette novelty party favors or a gag gift for a girlfriend [$25–$35; screamingo.com], but leave the heavy lifting to the vibe professionals. Here are links to some of our faves:
