Joining the ranks of weird products like Pillow Talk and Mojowijo intended to make long-distance relationships less challenging is Kissenger (short for “kiss messenger” — clever!), a pair of Pokemon-like robotic creatures with big silicone lips that can transmit the feeling of a kiss.
Hook your little bot up to your laptop via a USB cord, press your lips against it, and the the other device mimics the force and pressure of the smooch and even the shape of your lips. Watch how it works below:
The result…looks like you’re both blowing up a brightly colored balloon. But, hey, we’re onboard with anything that makes LDRs a little less excruciating, because as most of us know, sometimes Skype just doesn’t cut it.
The product is still being tweaked, so it’s unfortunately not available for purchase yet. Kissenger was developed by Professor Hooman Samani of the National University of Singapore — he’s been in the news before for attempting to create a robot equipped with the ability to love. (AI, anyone?)
Here’s hoping there’ll be a full-body Kissenger suit out soon.
