We can thank Emily Maynard‘s season of The Bachelorette for teaching us how to properly pronounce Curaçao (we had been saying it like “Morocco” for a good long while). And now, via Travelzoo, you can book your very own Curaçao getaway this fall for cheap. Like, under $500 cheap.
The advertised price of $389 will in theory net you a four-night trip with airfare (!) to the Sandton Kura Hulanda Lodge (TripAdvisor ranking: a respectable No. 8 out of 44 hotels in Curaçao), brightly colored houses and everything. Says Travelzoo:
The resort hosted romantic dates for ABC’s “The Bachelorette” Emily Maynard and her suitors. Highlights of the grounds include a pool, private beach, on-site dive shop and three restaurants. All rooms are set in two-story houses, creating a condo feel.
Take a complimentary shuttle to the sister resort, Sandton Kura Hulanda Hotel & Spa, in downtown Willemstad. The villagelike complex is five minutes to the harbor’s famous pastel-colored buildings. Plus, this was the location for final rose ceremony on the show.
Beyond its pristine beaches, pastel-colored buildings and top-rated dive spots, Curaçao also offers an eclectic mix of cultures, history and festivals. It’s outside of the hurricane belt, making it far less susceptible to fall storms than other Caribbean islands.
Ignore the whole “possible hurricanes” thing — who cares about natural disasters when you’re in love? — and it’s basically free paradise! Well, kind of. We attempted to book a package and found that if you’re conveniently traveling from Miami, the price is more like $439, and if you’re flying from elsewhere (like New York), you’ll pay upward of $679 — oh, and also take a 5:50 a.m. flight out of Newark.
But let’s not get bogged down in the details, shall we? Let’s pretend we’re going to Curaçao! Here’s our Bachelorette travel itinerary:
• Find man to throw us against a wall and make out with us, Arie-style.
• Wear embellished Vanna White–esque gown at every dinner.
• Request throw pillows and candles from concierge for impromptu beach picnics.
• When faced with a tough romantic decision in Curaçao, always choose the well-dressed man over the guys with a propensity to wear cargo shorts. We’ll look better together in the tabloid photos when they’re reporting that we’re breaking up.
