Ever shacked up with a stranger? You’re in good company. Adult sex toy site AdamEve.com surveyed 1,000 American adults and found that 58.1 percent of them claimed they’d had a one-night stand.
Worth noting: 79 percent of respondents were male (men have been found to overreport their number of sexual partners). Adam & Eve’s sexpert, Dr. Kat Van Kirk, goes into greater detail:
“There are many reasons people choose to have a one night stand,” says Dr. Kat. “From exploring one’s sexuality to a random hook-up outside a relationship… as long as both partners have the same expectations, a one night stand can be a positive release of sexual energy. Of course, safety is always a top priority.”
How do these findings stack up to other recent research on one-night stands?
• The 51.8 percent figure is exactly the same as the number reported by Match.com in a study of singles earlier this year.
• A 2003 study by Durex condoms reported that 45 percent of respondents had had a one-night stand.
• This year, MissTravel.com reported that 40 percent of women under age 30 had a one-night stand during a vacation.
