Where are all the single guys and gals? Well, it depends on where you live. Unattached folks in different areas of the U.S. like to engage in different types of dating activities when they’re getting to know one another, says the online dating site Match.com.
Match’s live, in-person Stir meetup events, which launched just this year, have been offered in more than 80 cities (Honolulu and Anchorage included), but what singles enjoy best depends on their geographic area. Here are a few cities that have had a strong showing for very specific events:
1. San Francisco: Outdoor gatherings
“Folks in SF tend to love outdoor events. Hiking (followed by happy hours) is one of the more popular type of events, and singles will come out rain or shine!”
2. Los Angeles: Performances
“Performance-based events sell out the fastest in the city of lights, camera, action — we had an event where a comedian helped the crowd mingle, and he followed it up with a great comic performance, which had great reviews following. L.A. singles also love the top night spots — our happy hours are always at places like STK and Pink Taco that draw large crowds.”
3. Chicago: Sports-based outings
“Sports events tend to sell out the fastest, and the most recent event was a Cubs game where singles could mingle, nosh, and watch the boys of summer.”
4. Detroit: Tango classes
“Singles in Motor City love to tango! Our Tango class sold out incredibly fast, whereas we had to cancel a similar class in Baltimore.”
5. Dallas: Doing good
“Singles in the Big D are drawn to events like bowling, but we recently hosted our first volunteer event that filled up fast. We had over 40 people visit a local food bank and donate their time, make a monetary donation, and then follow up the event with a happy hour. Singles were extremely generous!”
6. St. Louis: Beer-sampling
“It’s no surprise that singles in Budweiser’s hometown love their brews, and our beer pairing events in St. Louie draw both men and women.”
7. Boston: High-end tastings
“Boston singles seem to be quite refined — they love our chocolate making and wine tasting, a pairing that fares well with singles!”
8. New York: Hip and exclusive events
“Ever-changing New Yorkers relish new concepts, from events at a dog spa to midnight ping-pong (we sold out this event with over 300 people attending), to film premieres and underground dining.”
We love dating diversity! (And this is the kind of info comes in handy if you non-online-daters are planning to ask your crush, who happens to hail from Beantown [or the Big Apple, or the Windy City...], on a date.) To find a Stir event near you, check out Match’s website.
