What Kind of Porn Did People Watch in 2012?

Whether your stance on porn is liberal or less so, you’ve gotta admit: Pulling back the curtain on people’s laptops and seeing what smut they’re searching for — and who’s searching for it — is pretty tempting. We’re glad Pornhub knows that we’re nosy like that, as they’ve released some statistics on porn and 2012 that you’re going to want to check out:

First off, we’re not too surprised by what people searched for:

Top 5 Most Popular Categories of 2012:

  1. Teen
  2. Lesbian
  3. MILF
  4. Amateur
  5. Ebony

But who knew that California was so edgy, taking the top spot out from under our home state, Sodom and Gomorrah itself, New York? (And check out Illinois, coming from behind.)

Which U.S. state viewed the most videos in 2012:

  1. California
  2. New York
  3. Texas
  4. Florida
  5. Illinois

We also knew that DC is naughty (and the best place to have an affair, depending on whom you talk to).

Which U.S. state viewed the most videos in 2012 (Per capita measurement: Videos watched per person throughout the year):

  1. District of Columbia – 14.18
  2. Hawaii – 7.57
  3. Massachusetts – 7.52
  4. New York – 7.50
  5. Rhode Island – 7.28
  6. New Jersey – 7.21
  7. New Hampshire – 7.06
  8. Connecticut – 7.03
  9. Maryland – 6.67

And we’re guessing that this stat has more to do with either being bored at a relative’s house or finally being home-sweet-home after family gatherings than it does desecrating a religious holiday (or close to it, anyway).

Highest trafficked day of the year (total for U.S.):

  1. Dec. 27, 2012 – 12.82 Million Visitors

And even porn connoisseurs know when to keep it in check: Christmas was the lowest-porn-usage day this year. Aw.

Lowest day of the year U.S. (in descending order of traffic):

  1. Christmas Day (Dec. 25, 2012)
  2. Thanksgiving (Nov. 22, 2012)
  3. Easter Sunday (April 8, 2012)
  4. Christmas Eve (Dec. 24, 2012)
  5. Independence Day (July 4, 2012)

We can’t wait to see what changes the futuristic-sounding year of 2013 brings. Top search for space-martian sex? Post-modern depression and no porn searches at all? We shudder to think!
