Behold: The Vibrator of the Future

We have some idea about what the condom of the future will be like, but what about the vibrator of the future? The answer is: It kind of looks like something out of Minority Report.

Slate reports that Jimmyjane founder Ethan Imboden, a commercial product designer turned sex toy guru, recently introduced the relatively economical Hello Touch, which connects to the pads of your fingertips and promises to “enhance your natural touch.” If it glowed, you’d practically be in the movie Tron. But at $65, it’s quite a bit cheaper than other Jimmyjane vibes (especially the $3,500 diamond-encrusted Little Platinum Eternity).

Gadgets like this could also be meaningful for the culture at large, Slate says:

Yes, this is just a cool new way to get off. But it’s also a testament to the power of outside influence in destigmatizing the sex industry. When we talk about “crossover” successes in the adult industry, we tend to focus on people like Sasha Grey and James Deen, industry professionals who are so personally successful that they break out of the X-rated world to gain acceptance in the mainstream. But when a mainstream pro like Imboden turns his eye to sex, the entire industry gains a level of respect.

And another futuristic twist: Vibrators may soon be sold, well, pretty much everywhere:

As more and more outside designers look to move into the sex industry, Imboden thinks big companies will be enticed to get in on the action. Durex and Trojan are already marketing cheap vibrating products in drugstores. It’s only a matter of time before Victoria’s Secret and Johnson & Johnson move in.

Sounds good to us.
