Feeling resentful of your partner? You might want to blame your bedroom activity…but not in that way. When one person doesn’t get enough sleep, the other person can feel unappreciated, says new research from the University of California-Berkeley.
Why? Because tired people forget to say “thank you.”
“Poor sleep may make us more selfish as we prioritize our own needs over our partner’s,” says Amie Gordon, a UC Berkeley psychologist and lead investigator of the study.
Researchers interviewed more than 60 couples who kept journals that included sleep patterns and feelings about their relationship. The fix for this, however, is pretty easy:
“Make sure to say to say ‘thanks’ when your partner does something nice,” suggests Gordon.
Good to remember, even if you have to set a Google Calendar reminder for your weary brain to process.
