Last-Minute Valentine’s Day Gifts

Okay, so you didn’t exactly spend the past three months mapping out your V-Day present for your significant other. It doesn’t mean you love him or her any less…you just got busy. It happens. Well, you can start thanking us now, as we’ve compiled a list of a few killer Valentine’s Day gift ideas that will leave him or her under the impression you’ve been planning this all year.

1. Stack o’ Chocolate Bars

Giving chocolate on Valentine’s Day is always classic — but when you buy that heart-shaped box of chocolates, well, you never know what you’re gonna get. Instead, pick up a stack of three quality chocolate bars from a brand like Vosges (the bacon candy bars are fab), Mast Brothers (act fast — place your order online before noon today), or Green & Black’s (available in grocery stores), and tie it all together with a big red ribbon. Much better (and prettier) than biting into a truffle with unfortunate filling.

2. Unique Flowers

Red roses with baby’s breath? So mainstream. Flowers sent on V-Day never go out of style, but for a different twist on the usual suspects, try sending Calla lilies or avant-garde lavender roses from eco-friendly and socially conscious company OrganicBouquet.com. Act fast and you can get ‘em there by the 14th. [from $40]

3. Brooklyn Brew Shop Quarterly Brew Club Membership

If your honey loves to brew beer at home (even President Obama loves a homemade brew) and especially loves obscure beers, a membership in Brooklyn Brew Shop’s Brew Club is a surefire winner. Give a six-month or yearlong membership (you can whip up a homemade gift certificate for the big reveal), and the mixes for three one-gallon beers not available in stores arrive at your doorstep every quarter. Bonus: When the beer is ready, you get to share in the tasting. Need a kit? You can score one for $40 at Williams-Sonoma; if you’re short on time, print out a pic of it and attach it to the certificate.  [$90; brooklynbrewshop.com]

4. Coach Love Fragrance

Looking for a girly gift ASAP? Coach’s brand-new spritz, Love, has a double-”C” logo designed by Milton Glaser, the artistic genius behind the iconic “I Heart New York” logo. A little bit of history, and a nice romantic scent that she’ll appreciate. Pop into a department store like Macy’s or Dillard’s to find it. [from $72; macys.com]

5. A One-Night Hotel Stay

Having sex in a new setting is always a treat: The novelty of the new locale — plus a few perks like crisp, clean sheets and mini toiletries — is a fun way to set the mood. Book a room on V-Day or, to prolong the holiday, the next Saturday night. Try a discount site like Cheapostay.com to get the best rate. Next on your to-do list: Order room service and enjoy each other’s company. Pictured above: Trump SoHo, New York City.

6. A Handwritten Card

February 14 is the one day a year that you have an excuse to get a little mushy. And what everyone — male or female — appreciates is a sentiment that comes straight from you. Find a card at the drugstore or grocery store that’s blank inside, then write your lover something sweet. Start with a sentiment like, “I love you because…” or “When I’m with you I feel…” and let your inner Cyrano de Bergerac shine.

If you want to include an extra something special, write out a certificate for something you know your significant other would appreciate, whether it’s a night of you wearing that lace lingerie he loves…or a fancy post-sex brunch come Saturday afternoon.
