Ellen de Generes and Portia di Rossi to congratulate them on their wedding. (And, wow, I still think it’s amazing and appropriately wonderful of People magazine to treat gay hallmarks in their news pool the same as straight. Here’s to you!)
People wrote: Here come the brides! An ecstatic Ellen DeGeneres, 50, and longtime girlfriend Portia de Rossi, 35 (both in custom-made Zac Posen designs), swapped “I do’s” during an intimate candlelit ceremony held at their L.A. home on Aug. 16. Getting married “is not something we’ve ever taken for granted,” says de Rossi. “That we get to do this, it means a lot.”

Here’s a depressing fact of the day, straight from the Kinsey Institute, a research center for gender, sex, and reproduction.
Contemporary women have less sex than their 1950s counterparts because they have so little uncommitted time.

Come on ladies…let’s make more time for ourselves. When the author of the newly re-released Joy of Sex says she’s glad she’s not 10 years younger because of all the pressure generations X and Y have…it’s time to take a hint and destress. From the Huffington Post:
“I’m glad I’m not ten years younger because there are an awful lot of pressures on young people: to look fabulous; to have a fabulous sex life,” Susan Quilliam, the author, says. “We’re living in a world where it’s important to achieve and whether we have a good sex life has become one of our measures of personal validity. Alex Comfort [the original author of the Joy of Sex] took the emphasis off achievement - that is one of the many things he got right.”
Look for the revised book in January 2009, or order it from Amazon UK Sept. 1.

Speaking of teen crushes, when do you all think it’s the right time to talk to your teen about sex? My parents were always non-explicit and open about the weird questions that come up. I really appreciated that we never really had a sit down talk, but they took things as they came up and always bought age-appropriate books on the subject. I still laugh when I think of my mom dispelling sex myths like when a girl told me in 7th grade that when men had erections, their penises reaches below their knee and that’s why the upper division boys wore pants. Cue a trip to the bookshop and a book called “What’s Happening to My Body,” with a sub-chapter on boys. At what age did you/will you talk to your kids and how much will you disclose?

Being a Virgo, I did a little extra reading when researching this month’s Zodiac Seduction post. Guess what I cam up with? Apparently, the belly is the the spot of seduction for us Virgos. No wonder I was so obsessed with bellydancing last year (any maybe why there’s always a little extra, um, “love” on my petitely round belly.) Well, in a quick aside, bellydancing of course is a way to show your belly some extra love and turn it into a center of sensual seduction (that Snoop song, I swear! When will it stop popping up in my head as I write this column?). Yoga also is a form of exercise that’ll give you a toned body, a strong core, but, I’ve noticed, keeps that nice softness of the form.
Yoga sex tips plus more here.

I love my iPod. Goodbye bulky books of CDs or those racks of plastic jewel covers in my living room. Now I love my iPod even more…when I plug in an OhMiBod vibe into it! (If you have a techie boyfriend, he’ll love this toy too!) The vibe pulses to your favorite music and totally gives a new definition to “playing your favorite song.” Check out their super cute (video not suitable for people who don’t want to see a simulated orgasm…you know, just to make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into. There’s no nudity or anything.) If you like Suicide Girl Zoli, this one’s for you.

Here are the top five sex facts from SheKnows.com
1. The best medicine…
According to the Museum of Sex, the vibrator was originally used as a medicinal treatment for female “hysteria” during the 19th century. The vibrator-induced orgasms helped doctors dissipate hysteria’s anxiety-related symptoms.
2. Say cheese!
Semen contains zinc and calcium, both of which are proven to prevent tooth decay.
3. Hop to it.
The iconic “Rabbit” is renowned for two things: excellent results and an odd smiley face on its tip. Women’s Health tells us the smiley face was actually a result of conservative Japanese customs. Apparently, Japanese consumers frown upon “the production of sex toys that too closely resemble phalluses,” so the smiley face was added.
4. Does he measure up?
The average size of an erect penis is 5 inches, and the average flaccid penis measures about 3 inches.
5. The sad truth.
While this fact is neither entertaining nor humorous, it’s shocking to note that homosexuality remained on the American Psychiatric Association’s list of mental illnesses until 1973.\

Well, even if the documentary says Brits suck in bed, Dita von Teese, recently voted hottest garter and stocking wearer, loves the kinky limeys. She said: “The British are really quite kinky. I love being in London because it has a great heritage of burlesque. One of the great pioneers at the turn of the last century was a group called Lydia Thompson and Her British Blondes.
“They were the first girls to wear fishnet tights and lift their skirts and, by all accounts, they were very sexy in their G-strings.”
But she likes the simple pleasures in bed:
“I like vanilla sex as much as the next girl. Sometimes when I date men, they feel they have to put on a show. I’m like, ‘Stop trying so hard to impress me with your sexual perversions.’
“Sometimes I do like bondage and spanking, and, I think a lot of people, if they were honest, would say, ‘Yeah, that sounds fun.’ “

At 18, Sasha Grey made a name for herself for her willingness to engage in wild, rough sex. A young, edgy, shocking porn star. Well, of late, the Godard-loving, Osho-reading 20-year-old girl has been taking the art and music world by storm. News from Media Bistro shocked me a little today. As a print junkie, I am sad to report that Playgirl magazine, the women’s lib counterpart to Playboy launched in 1973, is now going to be only on the web, decreasing editorial content, increasing video and pictorial content. What a tragedy! What will we gals sneak away with now? Our laptops? As print media sees harder times, the question comes up: Do people really love to have something to hold in their hands and flip through, or does a computer screen give as much satisfaction as that Burt Reynolds pic?
