It’s summer, and you’re in full bloom. I bet you’re cranky, hot, and horny. Why not try the classic position for pregnant women: doggie style. Yes indeed. But being summer, have you man get a little creative. Incorporate a mister to spritz lightly on your back as he get busy…or perhaps he can slick his hands with massage oil and give you a little rub down as you come up to ecstasy. Just a thought.

So if in Heathers on teen suicide led a school to go crazy for self-death in response to the attention given to victims, in modern America in a real town girls made a pregnancy pact, as one observer explained to Time magazine, because they wanted that unconditional love. Jamie Lynn Spears and a lot of young Hollywood has buns in the oven, and Juno made teen pregnancy seem rather charming. Now, our teen pregnancy rates are the highest in 15 years. What came first: teen pregnancy romanticized in the media, or the factors that contribute to the increase in teen pregnancy (like available contraceptives)?

Hitting the doldrums with your man is easy to do: work is tough, you have a million and five things on your plate, you’re tired, he’s stressed, vice versa and so one. Having recently hit a patch like this with mine, I can tell you nothing was going to pull us out of the quick sand…or so it seemed. For some reason, I can’t pin point why, maybe out of some sort of wild desperation to relive happier, more carefree times (free of house payments, car payment, overtime…), we started doing things we loved to do as children. We went to the zoo, picnicked in the part, went to local fairgrounds, slept in late, and haunted places our parents used to take us as children.
Being at “that” stage in our relationship, we were reminded that making children was something we are really looking forward to. And, as if by magic, the libido was up and running again. Now, yoga took a back seat this month to spending time with honey, but it’s Ok. All the wandering around, impromptu games of tag, and what not kept that sloth feeling at bay. And, boy, does being a bit of a yoga freak have benefits we haven’t explored in bed. It’s just nice to see that we’ve found the time in our schedules, by letting the love in our hearts lead us, to be guided back to the bedroom for grown-up playtime.
Playfulness is seductive for singles too.

Here’s a taste of the exotic movement of belly dancing. My teacher (I’m in Belly Dance 101 - for people who are so green to moving their bodies this way we’re practically organic-certified) said this ancient dance was not only a form of seduction, but also a way to help prepare a woman’s body for giving birth. Check out the dancer’s movements. These are called isolated movements and work your muscles one by one, so you have better control of your body as a whole. Now ladies: isolated muscle exercise that tones your core, hot moves AND help with the pains of labor?
Time to find your local belly dance class!

Fast forward a few months. Your little one is a tiny bump, and you’re starting to have fantasies about decorating the baby room and naming her after your great-great aunt. There’s a person inside of you! And you don’t want to, uh, knock it loose…or some other unfounded, but very real, paranoia. Well, how do you negotiate sex?
Here’s a great article on sex during pregnancy from Ann Douglas, author of The Mother of All Pregnancy Books: The Ultimate Guide to Conception, Birth and Everything in Between.
(P.S. The bottom line is if you’re having a low-risk pregnancy, you’re OK to…and boy is that second trimester going to be a doozy!)

Boy or Girl? Older women have a higher chance of having girls because the feeble boy sperm have a harder time negotiating her increasingly hostile body environment. Eat lots of acidic foods if you want a girl, the increased acidity in your body will make it harder for Y-sperm to complete their mission impossible. Ah, the many old wives’ tales of conception…while these are fun to toss around and sometimes seem provable, here’s a little article I found that explores some myths and truths about getting pregnant.
